Give Your Horse Calm, Happy Front Legs Without Chemicals or Problematic Fly Boots

If your horse stomps, swishes, and suffers through fly season, Front Canterpants are the solution you've been looking for. Made from breathable, organic cotton, they cover both front legs with a full-length barrier that keeps insects, allergens, and irritants out - so your horse can stand quietly, heal faster, and feel comfortable all day long.

  • Breaks the itch-stomp cycle: a full-length barrier from hoof to shoulder blocks insects and allergens before they reach the skin, so your horse can stand quietly without stomping or swishing
  • Eliminates concussion-related injuries: less stomping means less wear and tear on joints and hooves
  • Protects wounds and dressings: keeps bandages clean and wounds protected to promote faster, uninterrupted healing
  • Perfectly clean legs for competition: arrive at the arena with spotless front legs, every time
  • Cool and breathable for Australian conditions: organic cotton construction means your horse won't overheat, even on the hottest days

Easy to Attach, Built to Last

Front Canterpants clip onto attachment points at the chest and belly, then close with a full-length zip and velcro fastener at the pastern. Designed and made in Australia for tough Australian conditions - built to be washed and reused season after season.

Is This the Right Product for You?

Front Legs includes the pant legs only (no Belly Band or Chest Buckle). It's designed for customers who already own a Front Set or Complete Set and need a backup pair, or who prefer to sew their own connections into their rug or chest bib.

If this is your first pair of Canterpants, we recommend the Front Set (front legs only) or the Complete Set (all four legs) instead. Not sure which is right for you? Contact Yvette - she's happy to help.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will these fit my horse? +

Canterpants are available in a range of sizes with adjustment straps for adjustable fit.

Before ordering, it's worth checking the Size Guide and Rug Requirements links at the top of this page. The pant legs attach to your existing rug, and getting the fit and compatibility right makes all the difference.

For stockier breeds, you may need to consider the size larger than recommended by height, to ensure sufficient movement in the pant legs. Yvette is happy to advise if you have queries about size.

What if my rug doesn't have standard attachments? +

Canterpants are designed to work with most standard horse rugs. The front legs attach via the Chest Buckle (which clips over your rug's existing chest strap) and the Belly Band, while the hind legs clip onto your rug's existing leg strap D-rings.

If your rug is missing one or more of these connection points, the alternative is to sew D-rings (or similar) inside your rug. Alternatively, for front connection points D-rings can be sewn onto a chest bib.

If you're unsure whether your rug is compatible, see the Rug Requirements link at the top of this page before ordering, or contact Yvette directly and she'll be happy to advise.

Are they hard to put on? +

Not at all. Canterpants attach to your existing rug in just a few simple steps - clip the Chest Buckle over your rug's chest strap, fasten the Belly Band, then attach the Front and Hind Canterpants to the Belly Band and your rug's leg strap D-rings. No tools required.

On first use, you'll need to adjust the fit to your horse. If you change rugs, a small readjustment may be needed to account for any difference in rug fit.

For a full walkthrough including video of Canterpants being fitted, see the Fitting Guide link at the top of this page.

Will my horse tolerate wearing them? +

Most horses accept Canterpants immediately. Others may take a little longer, particularly if they've never worn leg coverings before and find the different feel unfamiliar.

We recommend introducing them gradually - walk your horse calmly in hand to help them acclimatise before turning out.

Canterpants are lightweight and non-restrictive, and most horses visibly settle once insects can no longer reach them.

Are they hot in summer? +

Not at all. Canterpants are made from breathable cotton - the same principle as a long-sleeved cotton shirt, or cool cotton pants on a hot day.

The design and fabric allows airflow while blocking insects and UV, keeping legs cooler than exposed skin subjected to constant stomping and stress.

This is especially beneficial for horses with allergies, where skin is often already inflamed and hot.

Canterpants are designed with warm-weather performance in mind and handle summer heat with ease.

Will they hold up to daily use? +

Canterpants are built to withstand the demands of daily horse life. Designed with sturdy materials and reinforced construction to handle movement, rolling, and the general wear horses put on everything they wear. At the same time, the cotton fabric is genuinely soft against the skin with no restrictive elements, allowing full freedom of movement. Durable enough to last, comfortable enough that horses don't object to wearing them.
