Johnny's Story
I've owned my Johnny since he was 10 years old. Fresh off the track, I can't believe that was 10 years ago.
During our first spring/summer season together I had begun to notice he was rubbing his tail to the point where it was bald! (Every horse owners worst nightmare)
Over winter it calmed down, the hair grew back, and I thought nothing of it.
But, when it happened again in the following spring/summer season, I knew something had to be done and so our journey started.
I tried countless creams, rugs and flyboots, dietary changes, and worming. But nothing was ever resolved in the long term. Later, I reached out on social media asking for rug suggestions. I was contacted by a lady who gave me some suggestions and we've since become pretty good friends.
One of her suggestions was potentially contacting a dermatologist for animals, and so I did. They confirmed Johnny was allergic to insect bites and pollen.
He has since been on immunotherapy treatment and to help minimise bites, alongside rugs, now wears Canterpants. They have been a game changer, keeping away mozzies, flys, midgies and pollen, he is comfortable, relaxed, stylish and I have noticed he doesn't stamp nearly as much as he had before, my farrier has even commented that they are fantastic, he stands for him quietly and they don't get in the way of when he's trimming my boys feet.
